Psalm 58Words: The Psalter for Christian Worship, Michael Morgan
A Lament Those who judge the deeds of others Must be led by righteousness; Lest the verdict of injustice Their own evil works express. Can the guilty find them guilty, Who by grace should pardon see? Can they bind the poor in shackles Who by right should be set free? From their birth the hosts of evil At the just, in anger rave; Their assaults will sting but vanish, Justice reigns beyond the grave. Though like thorns their threats may pierce us, They those same thorns shall embrace; God, who shall decree their sentence, Rescues us through boundless grace.
