PART XVI: THE BIBLE AND "ANALOGOUS LANGUAGE"

In trying to do away with the clear meanings in scriptures, one of the points Dr. Stavrinides makes is that the Bible uses "analogous language".

Now it is true that the Bible contains many analogies. But Dr. Stavrinides is using this as an excuse to do away with anything that does not fit into his theory.

As I have already mentioned earlier, on tape #4 Dr. Stavrinides said that if you are in doubt about the meaning of a Hebrew word ... "YOU ARE SAFE TO TAKE IT AS A FIGURE OF SPEECH!"

Clearly he is not very worried that you might accidentally "spiritualize away" an instruction that God intended you to take literally. It is really an insult to God, who, if Kyriacos Stavrinides is to be believed, hardly ever means something literally!

He does nothing TO PROVE his statement. He merely claims to be stating a fact.

His claims regarding "analogous language" are patently false, intended to facilitate doing away with scriptures he doesn't like.

Where the Bible uses analogies, God usually explains elsewhere the meaning of the symbols he has used. There is no justification for inventing one's own interpretation of symbols used. As Mr. Armstrong so often said, we need to let the Bible explain its own symbols.
